San Diego Padres Wives Book Drive
The Padres Wives Book Drive is currently underway. New and gently used children’s books, appropriate for kids ages five and under, are currently being accepted at the Petco Park ticket office lobby, as well as the San Diego Central Library and Warwick’s Book Store in La Jolla. Those who donate will receive a voucher for 30 percent off tickets to a Padres game of their choice. As a culmination of the Padres Wives Book Drive, on Saturday, June 28, Padres players’ wives and significant others will be collecting books at the Petco Park gates from 5:30 p.m. until the end of the second inning of the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. All books collected will be distributed to two local non-profits: Reach Out & Read and Words Alive.
Learn more about these special organizations:
Reach Out & Read prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. It is a national organization with a local chapter that trains and supports medical providers who give books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud at well-child exams. www.rorsd.org
Words Alive is a non-profit reading advocacy organization that seeks to open opportunities for life success by inspiring a commitment to reading. Words Alive promotes reading and habitual book sharing in preschool-aged children and their families through integrated Early Literacy Intervention read-aloud programs throughout 70 local area schools and child development centers. www.wordsalive.org

Fanatic Tailgate at Lake Elsinore
Gold and Platinum Fanatic Members spent their Saturday down on the farm with the Lake Elsinore Storm for a tailgate party and game. The event began with behind the scenes tours of the Lake Elsinore Diamond followed by an all-inclusive picnic. Wilson Creek Winery joined in for the party along with Storm President Dave Oster and four players, including 2013 first-round draft selection Hunter Renfroe.
Joe Ross made the start and got the win as the Storm out-dueled the Modesto Nuts, 2-1 on Star Wars night. Hunter Renfroe scored the would-be game-winning run in the 4th inning on a 2 RBI double off the right field wall by Gabriel Quintana. Trevor Gott earned his 11th save with a perfect 9th inning.
